A Celebration of History: the Roann Covered Bridge Festival

September 05, 2017

September brings the promise of fall, and with it, the annual Roann Covered Bridge Festival. From September 7th - 10th, the town of Roann will celebrate its heritage with free concerts, a car show, hot-rod and farm tractor pulls. Other activities include a Saturday breakfast on the bridge, trolley rides to Stockdale Mill, and a parade that begins at 2:00 p.m. There will also be live entertainment, vendors, games, and rides, along with many other family-friendly fun things to do and see. Sunday’s events include a mud volleyball game at 12:30 p.m. and a duck race at 2:00 p.m. There is no admission fee for the festival.

The Roann Covered Bridge is a 288-foot-long Howe truss design built in 1877. After suffering fire damage in 1990, the bridge was rebuilt, and the resulting product now safely holds four tons. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has become a popular tourist attraction, as well as a symbol of local pride and historic value.
