What’s Up, Doc? The Art of the ‘Toon at the Honeywell

January 08, 2018

From Bugs Bunny to Daffy Duck, Porky Pig to Pepé Le Pew, Elmer Fudd to Marvin the Martian, along with a huge, red-haired, Converse-shod monster, the characters in Warner Brothers’ Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons have been entertaining viewers since their debuts in the 1930s. Witty and charming, the cartoons were often homages and occasional lampoons of classical music, literature, Hollywood, and even WWII, with such titles as “Hollywood Steps Out,” “The Big Snooze,” “Swing Shift Cinderella,” “Rabbit of Seville,” and “What’s Opera, Doc?” As a result, these ‘toons have left their mark as one of the strongest pop-cultural influences in current history.

The creators, directors, and stars of these popular shorts are all included in “The Art of Warner Brothers Cartoons.” Beginning January 10th, this exhibit will be on display at the Honeywell Center. With film shorts, cels, drawings, paintings, and other memorabilia used for these classic ‘toons, this event promises to be a fun and educational experience for cartoon lovers of all ages.
